Getting Started
Many who are initially excited about the adoption of a promising new program,
often become very disappointed to later find that the program does not
successfully reach students. State, regional and local funders and
decision-makers are requiring schools and community service providers to use
evidence-based health and education programs. Our research has shown that
advance planning for implementation can position schools for successful use of
those programs.
The School Capacity Building Toolkit provides research-tested tools adapted for
the Texas Department of State Health Services by the Health Network for
Evaluation and Training Systems (HNETS) at the University of Houston. This
website will provide schools tools to build their capacity to implement
Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) programs in Texas. For more information
about the research and development guiding the model used, see
Background.
A 36-item survey to assess school capacity to implement ATOD programs, an
instant report of strengths and barriers to success at your school, planning
tools and resources are provided. The survey will take 15-20 minutes for
completion.
